I’m Max, the Ottawa-based portrait photographer behind Lumos. I make street-style model work, personal portraits and sapphic couple stories with clear visual direction and enough room for the frame to stay human.
01 / Artist note
I photograph the suspended moment: a face turning toward light, a room becoming quiet, the thin distance between performing and being seen.
A portrait should feel considered without feeling over-managed.
My process begins with why the photograph matters, then builds a visual language around references, wardrobe, location and light. During the session I use simple direction, conversation and movement so you are not left wondering what to do—or pushed into a version of yourself that does not feel true.
The work is based in Ottawa, where water, winter dusk, downtown lines and intimate interiors can become part of the portrait rather than a generic backdrop.
02 / Where the name came from
Before the studio, there was Lumos.
Meet Lumos. Lumos is my cat, and the studio is named after this small face. The name is not an abstract reference—it comes directly from home. That is the whole origin story, and it belongs here.
